It is a truth universally acknowledged that a busy girl in possession of a glass of pinot noir will have an absolutely great night in. So at this point it’s clear that I love Jane Austen maybe a little too much, but I have to say it’s true, a good bottle of pinot, a favourite old movie and I’m good to go for the night. I think it’s easy to see that a nice night in is the perfect cure for a busy day at work, a busy day with kids or just a really ridiculously draining day.
It’s funny how great it feels to just kick back with a favourite movie and a favourite wine and zero responsibilities for a couple of hours, but in a world of constant busyness it really is the little things in life that truly cheer you up. For me in particular, it’s a bottle of my favourite Mornington Peninsula pinot noir and the DVD of The Seven Year Itch with Marilyn Monroe.
No matter how good the prospect of going out clubbing sounds, my closest friends and I know that just relaxing together or alone is the best way to unwind, and despite having the best Mornington Peninsula pinot noir to help us, it’s more about the relaxed company and the ability to just talk the night away together. The best advice I have ever been given is to enjoy the little things in life the most, because they are what make each day better despite any and all stress that you go through. If you’re always waiting for huge, dramatic, amazing things to happen, you are going to miss all the great little things that happen every single day.
Of course, all this is not to say that I don’t love going out to parties and clubs and bars, only that there is something so nice about your own home and your own privacy. Not to mention pajamas are way more comfortable than clubbing clothes. Besides, it might be a little strange to specifically order a Mornington pinot noir in a club. So, the importance of staying in from time to time is so clear, and incidentally so fun for me.
With this mindset, I’d recommend that you go buy a bottle of wine and stay in for a night with your favourite movie, whether it’s Marilyn Monroe or not.
